OGUK/OEUK Medical Exams

The OGUK/OEUK certificate is required for any worker who wants to work in an Offshore environment. This refers to all the naval vessels that operate in the open sea and near deep waters for oil exploration involving drilling, production, and construction work on the high seas.

Offshore Energy UK sets a standard of fitness which must be met by anyone working in the industry. Safety is an absolute priority for this industry. Therefore, every worker who works on an Offshore unit (drilling vessel, floating plant, semi-submersible, permanent platform) must undergo a specific medical examination.

This examination must be conducted and certified by a licensed doctor also approved by the United Kingdom Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA). The issuance of the certification is the task of the doctor who has acquired skills in the offshore environment and remote medicine and has followed specific training.

The examination includes:

  • Completion of Patient Health History Questionnaire
  • Urinalysis – routine urine test including sugar, protein, pH. This does not include drug testing.
  • BMI – measurement of height, weight and calculation of Body Mass Index
  • Visual – Near, Distance and Color Vision
  • Pulse and Blood Pressure Measurement
  • Lung Function Test / Pulmonary function Test
  • Audiogram (hearing test)
  • Consultation with comprehensive examination
